Santa Claus Chat is a festive game that lets children send messages to a friendly Santa character and get a reply. We have built it to be safe and gentle, and to collect as little information as possible. This page explains what that means in plain language.

Santa’s replies are created by AI

Santa’s messages are written by artificial intelligence (an AI assistant from Anthropic, the makers of Claude). They are not written by a real person in real time. We give the AI strict instructions to stay kind, age-appropriate, and in character as Santa, and never to ask children for personal details.

No sign-up, no accounts

Children do not need to create an account or log in. We do not ask for a name, age, address, school, email, or phone number, and Santa is instructed never to request them.

What happens to chat messages

When a child sends a message, it is sent securely to our AI provider (Anthropic) so that Santa can write a reply, and the reply is sent back. This processing may take place on servers outside the UK, including in the United States. We do not keep a record of conversations linked to a child, and messages are not used to train AI models. Before a message is sent we automatically remove things that look like an email address, phone number, or web link, and we instruct the AI never to ask for or repeat other personal details such as a full name, address, or school. We cannot guarantee that every detail a child chooses to type is removed, so we gently encourage children not to share personal information.

Cookies & analytics

To understand how the portal is used — which parts work well and where children get stuck — we use Google Analytics together with Vercel’s privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics. This is switched on by default, and a banner tells you so on your first visit. You can opt out at any time from that banner or via Cookie settingsat the bottom of the page, and we’ll remember your choice on this device. We only collect usage information (such as pages viewed, approximate location, and device type); your child’s messages are never sent to analytics, IP addresses are anonymised, and we use no advertising or ad-tracking cookies.

If you contact us (Parent Feedback)

If a grown-up uses our Parent Feedback form, we use the details provided only to read and, if you ask, to reply to your message. We do not use them for marketing.

For parents and carers

We have tried to follow the principles of the UK Information Commissioner’s Children’s Code, and we keep working to do better. We strongly recommend that a grown-up stays nearby while a child chats. If a child ever shares something worrying, please talk to them and, if needed, contact Childline on 0800 1111 or the NSPCC on 0808 800 5000.

Your rights & contact

Because we do not store personal information about children, there is very little data to access or delete. If you have any privacy question, please get in touch through our Parent Feedbackform. You can also contact the UK regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office, at ico.org.uk.
